The 1940s
- John Francis Coyne, technical director of Hecla Electrics owned by the Marriot family, manufactured electric appliances in and for Australia.
- John Coyne Snr’s Screw System was sold to McPherson’s Ltd in 1944 as one of the most innovative fasteners in the world.
- His many designs and patents, including the electric frypan with removable plug and thermostat, became a standard household appliance. He fought and won an American challenge to this patent.
